The observation tower, also known as a watchtower or fire lookout tower, raises the viewing position above trees, buildings and uneven ground. Most enquiries begin with a tower height, but we also need to know what the observer must see. Forest fire stations usually need a clear line of sight over the tree canopy, while a factory or security post may need a much lower viewing deck.
Our usual design is a four-leg frame made from braced angle steel. It is a straightforward structure to galvanize, pack and assemble on site. Where the footprint is tight, we can look at a triangular frame or a tubular tower instead. The sections are bolted, with the largest shipping piece agreed before production.
How often someone climbs the tower makes a real difference. A caged ladder is practical for occasional checks. If guards work in shifts, or if the public will use the tower, stairs and intermediate landings make more sense. This should be decided early because the access system changes the tower weight and foundation reactions.
At the top
The simplest arrangement is an open deck with guardrails. For long shifts, an enclosed cabin gives the operator shelter from wind and rain. We can make the cabin with windows, a door and basic interior fittings, or leave the inside ready for local finishing. On exposed sites, the design is checked against the stated wind speed, ice load and working temperature.

A hand sketch is enough to start a quotation. Mark the required deck height and size, cabin dimensions if needed, and whether you want stairs or a ladder. Please also give the project location so we can check the design conditions.
Applications
We supply these towers mainly for forest and grassland fire watch. They are also used at industrial sites, security posts and scenic areas where a raised view is needed.
